“I think I’m in love with someone at school. How can I know if it’s true love?” New Era, October 2015, 41
I think I’m in love with someone at school. How can I know if it’s true love?
Your feelings for another person may be very strong and very real, but as a teenager, you’re not in a position to marry anytime very soon, so contemplating “true love” is a bit premature. Church leaders have counseled you to avoid “developing serious relationships too early in life,” because they “can limit the number of other people you meet and can perhaps lead to immorality” (For the Strength of Youth [2011], 4). Although it’s possible that someone you know now may end up being your spouse later on, it’s impossible for you to know that right now. Focus on building friendships and social skills, not on questions of “true love.”
