“How do you know if you’re ready for the Second Coming?” New Era, May 2018
To the Point
How do you know if you’re ready for the Second Coming?
We don’t know when Jesus Christ will come again, but we’ve been told by Him, as well as ancient and modern prophets and apostles, what to focus on as we prepare. For example:
“The hour and the day no man knoweth, neither the angels in heaven, nor shall they know until he comes.
“Wherefore, I [the Lord] will that all men shall repent” (D&C 49:7–8).
“They that are wise and have received the truth, and have taken the Holy Spirit for their guide, and have not been deceived—verily I say unto you, they shall not be hewn down and cast into the fire, but shall abide the day” (D&C 45:57).
“What if the day of His coming were tomorrow? … What confessions would we make? What practices would we discontinue? What accounts would we settle? What forgivenesses would we extend? What testimonies would we bear?
“If we would do those things then, why not now? Why not seek peace while peace can be obtained?” (President Dallin H. Oaks, First Counselor in the First Presidency, Apr. 2004 general conference).
“When Christ comes, the members of His Church must look and act like members of His Church are supposed to look and act if we are to be acceptable to Him. We must be doing His work, and we must be living His teachings” (Elder Jeffrey R. Holland of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, “Preparing for the Second Coming,” New Era, Dec. 2013, 4).
