What do we know about the nature of the Godhead?
Prepare Yourself Spiritually
The Godhead includes God the Eternal Father, the Savior Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost. Although the members of the Godhead are distinct beings with distinct roles, They are one in purpose. They are perfectly united in bringing to pass Heavenly Father’s plan of salvation.

Questions to Ponder before You Teach
How does understanding the Godhead help you know who you are? How does our knowledge of the Godhead differ from the beliefs of other religions?
Do the young women understand how the three members of the Godhead work together? How will an understanding of the nature of the Godhead help the young women?
What can the young women do to prepare to learn? For example, they could read a talk, watch a video, or study a scripture related to this doctrine.
Meeting Outline
1. Counsel Together and Share Experiences
Led by a member of the class presidency; approximately 5–10 minutes
Lead a discussion about items such as the following:
-
Our class: Who is missing today? What visits do we need to make? Who should we invite to an upcoming activity? Who needs our help and prayers?
-
Our responsibilities: What assignments do we need to make? What assignments have we fulfilled? How have we invited others to come unto Christ, and how can we invite others now?
-
Our lives: Remind the class of the discussion from the last meeting. What experiences have we had with applying what we learned? What experiences have we had in the past few weeks that strengthened our testimonies of the gospel?
If possible, discuss these items beforehand in a class presidency meeting.
2. Learn Together
Led by a leader or teacher or a member of the class; approximately 25–35 minutes
After studying the above resources and following the inspiration of the Spirit, you may select one or more of the activities below to help class members understand the doctrine.
-
Invite the young women to think of challenges that young women face today. What can the young women find in section IV of President Dallin H. Oaks’s talk “The Godhead and the Plan of Salvation” that can help them with these challenges? To help them learn more about the members of the Godhead, divide the young women into three groups, and give each group a piece of paper with one of the following headings: “God the Father,” “The Son,” and “The Holy Ghost.” Invite each group to search the corresponding section of President Oaks’s talk and look up the scriptures he shared. Ask the young women to record what they learn on their papers and share their thoughts with the class. How can the truths we have learned about the Godhead help us with the challenges we identified?
-
Give each young woman a paper with the following questions: How would you describe the Savior’s relationship with His Father? In what sense are the Father and the Son one? What are the roles of the Holy Ghost? Invite them to ponder these questions as they watch, listen to, or read Elder Robert D. Hales’s talk “Eternal Life—to Know Our Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus Christ.” Give them time to write their answers, and invite them to share what they write.
-
Invite each young woman to read “Godhead” in True to the Faith. Ask one of the young women to share what she learns from her reading. Then ask another young woman to restate what the first young woman said and then share something she learned herself. Repeat until each young woman has had a chance to share. Ask the young women how our view of the Godhead might differ from the views of other religions. How can having an accurate view of the Godhead bless the young women?
-
Write three headings on the board: There are three members in the Godhead, The Godhead is united as one, and Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ have physical bodies. Write scripture references about the Godhead (such as those listed in this outline) on small cards. Invite the young women to take turns picking a card, reading the scripture aloud, and writing the reference under the appropriate heading on the board (some of the scriptures may belong under more than one heading). How can knowing these truths about the Godhead bless the young women? Encourage the young women to keep a list of these references in their scriptures so they can use them to teach others about the Godhead.
3. Plan to Act
Led by a member of the class presidency; approximately 5–10 minutes
-
Ask the young women to discuss any feelings or impressions they had during the meeting. What was meaningful to them? Is there something they can do personally or as a class to apply what they have learned?
-
Give the young women a few minutes to record what they will do in the coming weeks to act on their impressions. Invite them to share their ideas.
-
Remind the young women that they will have the opportunity to share their experiences at the beginning of the next meeting.
