Activity: Book of Mormon Stories

09/23/20 | 1 min read

Purpose

Learn about the Book of Mormon in a fun way.

Activity Suggestion

Play a game acting out stories or events from the Book of Mormon. Divide the group into two teams. The teams take turns acting out a story while the other team tries to guess the story or event. After each team finishes acting out the story, talk about the gospel principles that story teaches.

Consider the following options:

  • Each team can choose their own story, or they could select a story at random from a bowl. You may also want to have pictures of stories from the Book of Mormon.
  • Determine whether teams will be able to talk or make noises when they act out the story.
  • Give the teams 2 to 3 minutes to act out the story or event.
  • If possible, provide items that can be used as costumes or props.

Note: Please avoid stories where a child would act in the role of Heavenly Father or the Savior. While it’s important to have fun, help guide the children to ensure that all stories are portrayed with dignity and respect.

Please adapt activities as necessary to ensure all individuals are able to participate, belong, and contribute.

Adaptation Ideas

  • Invite the children to draw the stories rather than acting them out. Invite other children or teams to guess which story is depicted in each drawing.
  • Service idea: Help the children create simple Book of Mormon storybooks to give to younger children in the ward.

Discussion

  • Encourage children to talk about how what they are learning can help them and others grow closer to Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. Discussions can take place before, during, or after the activity and should last just a few minutes. You could ask questions like the following:
    • What do you like about the Book of Mormon?
    • How has the Book of Mormon helped your testimony grow?
    • How does learning from the Book of Mormon help us become more like the Savior?
