“Good inspiration is based upon good information.”

When Russell M. Nelson was called to be President of the Church, he needed to choose two counselors. He said, “Because I know that good inspiration is based upon good information, I prayerfully met one-on-one with each Apostle.”

Why did he need to formally meet with everyone? Surely he already knew these men very well. His example teaches us two important things:

When it comes to our Church callings, we should seek inspiration in our service—even when we think we can figure it out on our own.

President Nelson knew the Apostles, but he’d never had to choose two of them as counselors before. The men were familiar, but the situation was new—and President Nelson was humble enough to acknowledge that.
