Scripture of the Day: “And after ye have obtained a hope in Christ ye shall obtain riches, if ye seek them; and ye will seek them for the intent to do good—to clothe the naked, and to feed the hungry, and to liberate the captive, and administer relief to the sick and the afflicted” (Jacob 2:19).
Money—either the lack of it, or having too much of it—can cause a lot of challenges in life. One of the most repeated commandments in the scriptures is to help the poor and share what we have with those who don’t have enough.
So... is it wrong to be rich?
Not necessarily.
But Jacob provides some guidelines.
Seeking God, not money, should be our priority. We should always pay tithing on our increase. And we should use whatever wealth we have to help others.
As the Savior said: “Whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it” (Matthew 16:25).
