Roll up your sleeves and let’s go!

Follow these steps to make your own clay, then shape it into whatever you want! Can you think of any scriptures that mention clay?1

Clay Ingredients

  • 2/3 cup water
  • Food coloring (optional)
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1 cup baking soda

Other Materials

  • Saucepan
  • Plate
  • Damp cloth
  • Paint (optional)
Homemade Clay

Instructions

  1. Pour water into a saucepan. For colored clay, add a few drops of food coloring.
  2. Mix in cornstarch and baking soda.
  3. Stir over medium heat until it thickens (4–6 minutes).
  4. Remove from heat, dump onto plate, and cover with damp cloth. Let cool.
  5. Knead the clay until it’s smooth.
  6. Shape it however you want!
Tip: Dip your fingers in water frequently to keep the clay smooth while you work.
  7. Let your sculpture dry overnight.
Tip: If you’re not ready for it to dry yet, store it in an airtight container or wrap it in plastic wrap.
  8. If you want, add some designs using paint.
