Here are a few facts about these amazing women.

Is your country celebrating Mother’s Day this month? We can all learn from the examples of these two powerful mothers:

Lucy Mack Smith

  • Grew up studying the Bible and searching for truth.
  • Was mother to 11 children‚ including Joseph Smith Jr.
  • Used the Bible to teach her children to read.
  • Prayed with her children.
  • Testified of the Book of Mormon and her son’s prophetic role.
  • Created a personal history that helps us better understand the early Church.

Emma Hale Smith

  • Was devoted to God, even as a child.
  • Went to school and eventually taught classes herself.
  • Gave up a comfortable lifestyle to marry Joseph Smith Jr.
  • Was mother to 11 children, including 6 who died young and 2 she adopted.
  • Acted as scribe as Joseph translated the gold plates.
  • Compiled the first Church hymnbook (see Doctrine and Covenants 25).
  • Was first president of the Female Relief Society of Nauvoo.
