Spencer W. Kimball

Spencer W. Kimball has been ordained and set apart as the prophet and twelfth president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His counselors are N. Eldon Tanner and Marion G. Romney, former counselors to President Harold B. Lee.

Readers of this magazine will remember that in the very first issue of the Friend (January 1971) President Kimball told how through his experiences as a young boy gathering eggs, selling potatoes and peaches, and milking cows he learned to obey the law of tithing.

At that time he said, “The Lord has promised that if boys and girls and their parents are faithful, He will pour out great blessings upon them. I know He keeps His promise.”

The Friend staff joins boys and girls and members of the Church everywhere in sustaining and praying for President Kimball and his counselors. These great men love children, and their love for the Church will make them very special friends as well as inspired leaders.
