Postage Stamp Art

A good way to recycle used postage stamps is to save colorful stamps from mail you receive and use them to make pictures. Stamp collectors cannot use damaged stamps, so maybe a stamp collector friend will give you his unwanted stamps.

Begin your postage-stamp pictures by drawing freehand or tracing a simple picture onto a small sheet of lightweight cardboard. Soak your saved stamps in plain water for a few minutes so they will separate from the envelope paper. Dry stamps.

Cut stamps into small pieces of various shapes and glue them onto your drawing, using appropriate colors—green stamps for leaves, shades of red stamps for flowers, etc. Fit stamp pieces together in a mosaic. Do not cut off lettering or numbers; they will add interest to your picture.
