Bookworm
Make this handy bookworm from scraps of two- or three-ply yarn, a 1″ (2.5 cm) shank button, glue, and construction paper.
-
Cut four 2′ (.6 m) lengths of yarn from three different colors and two 5″ (12.5 cm) lengths of any of the three colors.
-
Double one shorter piece of yarn, and thread through button shank. Line up longer pieces of yarn evenly, keeping same colors together. Using yarn in button, tie longer pieces of yarn firmly around the middle.
-
Separate longer yarn by color into three groups. Braid (see diagram) until about 2″ (5 cm) of each color remain. Tie second shorter piece of yarn around bookworm where braiding stops. Trim, leaving 1″ (2.5 cm) fringe.
-
Cut out tiny eyes, nose, and mouth from construction paper, and glue onto button.
