“Sharing Time: Seek the Lord,” Friend, Jan. 1985, 39
Sharing Time:
Seek the Lord
And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart (Jer. 29:13).
This time line can be used to review stories about prophets who showed great faith when they prayed to the Lord for answers and then obeyed the instructions that they received. That is how Noah learned to build the ark. That is how Joseph in Egypt learned the meaning of Pharaoh’s dream. And that is how Joseph Smith learned about restoring the true church.
Like the prophets, we also can pray for answers. And like them, when we receive answers, we must obey the instructions that we receive.
Instructions:
-
In the box under each picture on the timeline, write the name(s) of the appropriate person(s). Use the scripture references as your guide.
-
Use time line when telling scripture stories in family home evening.
Sharing Time Ideas
-
Make copy of time line for each child. Have children tell what they know about each person, then print name in correct place.
-
Enlarge time line on roll of paper. Older children can search for additional information, such as approximate dates given in scripture references, footnotes, or reference materials.
-
Use time line as reference whenever other prophets or events are discussed.
-
Add names of all latter-day prophets. Ask what they prayed about, discuss answers they received.
-
Invite children to share personal or family experiences about praying for an answer and obeying instructions received.
