“The Nativity,” Friend, Dec. 1990, inside front cover
The Nativity
Mary looked with love upon
The tiny child that lay
Gently wrapped in swaddling clothes
Upon sweet-smelling hay.
Shepherds knelt before their Lord
And reverently looked on.
The air was filled with the sweet sound
Of joyous angels’ song.
Joseph stood with staff in hand—
Kindly was his face.
The lovely star shone overhead
Upon the humble place.
