“Christmas Secrets,” Friend, Dec. 1992, inside front cover
Christmas Secrets
Since Susan did her shopping,
There’s a twinkle in her eyes.
And there’s a secret twitching
Right where Tommy’s dimple lies
Whenever ‘present-wondering’
Begins again each year.
And all of it just shows, of course,
That Christmas Day is near.
There’s paper gently rustling
Behind Father’s locked den door,
And Mother spends more time upstairs
Than she has spent before.
There are bulges in the closets.
From beneath beds presents peer.
And all of it just shows, of course,
That Christmas Day is near.
