“Solomon’s Temple,” Friend, Sept. 1993, 15
Solomon’s Temple
Altars of gold, costly stones,
Doors from the olive tree,
Golden basons, bowls, and spoons,
A brazen molten sea,
Pillars of brass, precious stones,
Veils of purple and blue,
Iron, linen, timber, stone,
Silver and spices, too,
Ceilings of fir, lamps of gold,
Walls of cedar stood high,
Candlesticks of gold within—
All was then sanctified.
Each piece was carved and fashioned—
Cherub and laver alike—
Measured, cut, chiseled, and shaped
Before being brought to the site,
For in that holy temple
No tool of any kind
Was ever heard while building
That hallowed house divine.
