What Time Is It?
(An outdoor game from Peru for four or more players)
The object of the game is to tell the hour by the number of times each player jumps in a jump rope. The first player marks zero by running through. The next runs in, jumps once, and runs out. The next runs in, jumps twice, and runs out. Someone should be jumping on each stroke of the rope, so each player must be ready to jump immediately after the player before her or him. When a player misses or jumps the incorrect number of times, he or she changes place with one of the rope turners and the game starts over. (Note: Don’t stop at noon (twelve)—use “military” time, in which midnight is called twenty-four (hundred). How many days can you jump in a row?
