Nepal is a country in South Asia. About 30 million people live there.

A Special Flag

Nepal is the only country with a flag that is not a rectangle! It has a sun and a moon on it.

Mount Everest

Nepal is home to the world’s tallest mountain, which is 29,032 feet (8,849 m) tall. More than 6,000 people have climbed all the way to the top.

Hindu Friends

Most people in Nepal follow Hinduism. In this religion, cows are sacred animals that are treated with respect.

Dal Bhat

Each day people eat a meal with dal (lentils) and bhat (rice). They often eat other foods with it, like vegetable curry and pickled vegetables.

The Book of Mormon

The whole Book of Mormon was published in Nepali for the first time in 2017. The Church members there were so excited!

Activity

Gatti (Five Stones Game)

Five small stones

Sit on the ground and scatter five small stones in front of you. Pick up one stone and toss it up a few inches. While it’s in the air, use the same hand to pick up another stone. Then catch the stone you tossed in the same hand. Keep going until you have picked up all five stones. You can play by yourself or with some friends!

Recipe

Dal (Lentil Soup)

1. Pour 1/8 cup oil into a pot. Chop 1 onion and 2 garlic cloves and cook over medium heat for a few minutes.

2. Add 1 teaspoon each of powdered coriander, chili, turmeric, cinnamon, and ginger. Stir for a few minutes.

3. Add 2 cups lentils (rinsed) and 4 cups water.

4. Cook on medium heat for 20 minutes or until lentils are soft. If you want, chop some cilantro to add at the end.
