“ What Is RootsTech?” Liahona, February 2022
What Is RootsTech?
RootsTech 2022 is a free global family history event, held virtually, where people of all ages learn to discover, share, and celebrate their family connections across generations using technology. RootsTech 2022 begins March 3.
How is a virtual RootsTech conference unique?
For 10 years, RootsTech was an annual in-person conference, held in Salt Lake City. With over a thousand classes offered, simply trying to choose which few classes to attend was often the hardest part. In a virtual setting, however, participants have a whole year to watch classes whenever they want.
Whom is it for?
The event is for anyone interested in learning more about family history, from the beginner to the professional genealogist and from members of the Church to friends of the Church alike. Classes are available in multiple languages, and there are even classes for children and youth.
What classes are offered?
RootsTech offers a wide range. You can choose classes on research for specialized areas, like Scandinavian or African family history. Or delve into DNA use in family history. Discover how to collect family stories and old photographs online. Learn how to use FamilySearch better or simply how to get started. There’s even a class on the definition of a “second cousin once removed” and every other complicated relationship.
How do I participate in RootsTech?
Go to rootstech.org and create a free account. On the Home tab, you’ll see instructions for using the website, including a video tutorial. In the Sessions tab, click the + sign to add the video of any class to your playlist. Return as often as you’d like to watch your favorites—you’ll have a whole year to do it.
