An Example of Love and Service

“And behold, I tell you these things that ye may learn wisdom; that ye may learn that when ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God” (Mosiah 2:17).

Since the organization of the Benjamin Ward, of the La Romana Dominican Republic Stake, the Wilkes family has been an example of service. Sister Jannette Wilkes, along with her husband and children, have provided love and assistance to their neighbors. Sister Wilkes, a mother and faithful wife, has a strong testimony of our Heavenly Father which is reflected in her care and support for the sisters and brothers of her ward and community.

In Matthew 25:34–40, Christ teaches his disciples how to serve. “Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:

“For I was an hungered, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:

“Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.”

Puzzled, the disciples asked, “Lord, when saw we thee an hungered, and fed thee? Or thirsty, and gave thee drink?

“When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?

“Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?”

And then Lord teaches them the importance of service: “Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.”

Like any true disciple of Christ, Sister Jannette Wilkes is present on any occasion that the neighborhood needs, both in the service of the Church as well as that of her neighbors. She is a compassionate person with a kind heart, faithful in her principles, serving and supporting her community. She feeds and ministers to the sick, remembers ward member’s birthdays, provides a shoulder to cry on when needed, she offers sage advice and strengthens the testimonies of others every day. She is truly an example of serving in a Christlike way.

Sister Wilkes has been, and continues to be, a faithful sister in the Church, serving in both the ward and stake and is currently serving as a seminary teacher. She is a genuine disciple of Christ and truly a worthy representative of the Church, always providing an example of charity and empathy and the pure love of Christ.
