Hold Fast to Faith

The escalating desperation and anxiety stemming from the many things happening in our lives and in the world around us can be disconcerting, upsetting and frightening. These challenges may distract us from the path of truth. The pervasive fear and sense of helplessness often feel constricting.

Have you ever found yourself lost amidst the sense of overwhelming distress or powerlessness triggered by tumultuous events in the world? During moments of such emotional turbulence, I share with you some practices that help fortify my hope and faith in Jesus Christ and in our Heavenly Father:

1. Praying with a contrite heart

2. Extending a helping hand to others

3. Immersing myself in the scriptures

4. Attending my sacrament meetings

5. Regularly worshiping Jesus Christ in the temple

6. Sharing the gospel with others

7. Striving to embody the attributes of Jesus Christ

One of my favorite scriptures is Ether 12:4: “Wherefore, whoso believeth in God might with surety hope for a better world, yea, even a place at the right hand of God, which hope cometh of faith, maketh an anchor to the souls of men, which would make them sure and steadfast, always abounding in good works, being led to glorify God.”

God promises us that if we believe in Him and have hope, anchored by our faith in Jesus Christ, we will have security, strength, and a better world. These words bring me profound peace.

The more we exert ourselves with faith in Christ, obey His commandments, show love for our neighbors, engage in acts of service, and make and renew covenants then the more burdens that cause us mental anxiety and pain will dissipate, and the Savior’s mantle will cover us.

Always extend a helping hand when you can. The world changes every time someone does something good, sets an example, or invites others to do so. From small things come great things.

God’s plan is wonderful; we only need to trust Jesus Christ with faith so we may have peace, hope, and joy even in times of turmoil. I know that we are His children and that He loves us; He only desires that we believe in Him.
