The Church Is Here
Liège, Belgium
The restored gospel of Jesus Christ likely first arrived in Belgium when a Latter-day Saint convert from Turkey, Mischa Markow, began teaching the Esselman family in 1888. After they were baptized, missionaries in Switzerland and Germany began serving in Belgium. In two months, 80 people joined the Church, and congregations were organized in Liège, Brussels, and Antwerp. Today, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Belgium has:
-
6,600 members (approximately)
-
2 stakes (11 wards, 2 branches)
-
1 temple (announced in 2021, to be built in Brussels)
Blessings of Scripture Study
Karen Wery of the Namur Ward says of her family: “We study our scriptures together and share our thoughts and inspirations with one another. We use the scriptures but also videos and other resources, such as the Friend magazine, to help our children better understand the doctrine. The biggest impact we’ve had is the growth of unity in our house.”
