Doctrinal Mastery: Assessment 2 Review
Alma 7:11–13 through Moroni 10:4–5
This doctrinal mastery assessment review is designed as a learning experience to help students review the 12 doctrinal mastery passages from Alma through Moroni. It will allow them to demonstrate understanding and application of the truths in these passages. It is also designed to help prepare students for the upcoming assessment (“Doctrinal Mastery: Assessment 2”)
This learning experience would benefit students most if they can work together during a class session. If you are a home-study or online teacher, be sure to do this during one of your weekly classes.
Use this review and administer the doctrinal mastery assessment any time after you have taught all doctrinal mastery passages from Alma 7:11–13 through Moroni 10:4–5. Allow enough time between this review and the assessment for students to study passages they do not know well. It may be necessary to teach some of the doctrinal mastery lessons before they come up in the lesson sequence so the assessment can be administered before the end of the year.
Possible Learning Activities
Consider the needs of your students and select the portions of this review that will best help them prepare for “Doctrinal Mastery: Assessment 2.” Throughout this review, invite students to note the passages they do not know well and to make plans to study and review these passages in preparation for the assessment.
The quizzes in review activities 1 and 2 are suggestions to help students review the references and key scripture phrases they have studied during this half of the course. Different activities could be used to accomplish this according to students’ needs. Additional ideas can be found in previous doctrinal mastery review lessons or on the Doctrinal Mastery mobile app.
Review Activity 1: Match the scripture references and key scripture phrases
Consider using the following quiz to help students review the scripture references and key scripture phrases they have studied during this half of the course.
Answer key: 1-c, 2-e, 3-a, 4-i, 5-f, 6-b, 7-j, 8-h, 9-k, 10-l, 11-g, 12-d
As an alternative to the quiz, you could print each of the 12 scripture references and key scripture phrases onto separate slips of paper. Give one paper to each student and invite them to find and stand next to the person whose paper has the corresponding reference or key scripture phrase. Afterward, you could mix up the papers and repeat the activity a few more times.

Review Activity 2: Know the key scripture phrases
The following fill-in-the-blank activity could be used to help students review the key scripture phrases.
Answer key: 1. sincere; intent; know 2. atonement; infinite; eternal 3. rock; Redeemer; foundation 4. witness; trial; faith 5. will; Father; beginning
Another way to help students review the key scripture phrases is to have them unscramble the phrases. Print out each phrase, and cut them so there is only one word on each slip of paper. You could divide students into small groups and provide each group with one set of papers that will form a complete key scripture phrase. Invite the groups to unscramble the words so the key scripture phrase is reassembled in the correct order. After the groups finish, they could trade papers and repeat the activity.
Fill in the blanks with the missing words from the key scripture phrases.

Review Activity 3: Apply the doctrine
Help students practice applying the doctrine taught in the doctrinal mastery passages to real-life situations. One way to do this would be to display the following scenarios. Then invite students to decide which doctrinal mastery passage(s) could help the person in each scenario. Invite students to explain how the doctrine taught in the passage(s) they chose could help.
This activity could be done individually, in groups, as a class, or a combination of all three.

A young woman who is learning about the Church wants to know what she should do to follow Jesus Christ.

A group of teenagers recently started being rude to many of their peers at school.

Your friend does not understand the significance of Jesus Christ and asks you what He has done for us.

A young man wants to know how he can receive God’s help and strength to be protected from Satan’s temptations.
Review Activity 4: Use the principles of acquiring spiritual knowledge
Help students review the principles of acquiring spiritual knowledge and give them an opportunity to practice using them in real-life situations. The following is one way to do this.
Imagine the following scenario:
A young woman sometimes feels like God’s commandments are too restrictive. She wonders if she would be happier if she could just live her life in whatever way she feels is best.
Ponder how you might use the following principles of acquiring spiritual knowledge to help this teenager seek Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ to receive help with her concerns.

Review Activity 5: Passages with special meaning in your life
Invite students to reflect on which doctrinal mastery passage has impacted them the most. For example, they might choose one that helped them feel the love of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ or helped them better understand Jesus Christ and His Atonement.

Principles of acquiring spiritual knowledge
Review paragraphs 5–12 in the “Acquiring Spiritual Knowledge” section of the Doctrinal Mastery Core Document (2023). Ponder how you could use principles of acquiring spiritual knowledge to help someone overcome a challenge or concern he or she is facing.
