The Word of Wisdom
Read about this story in Doctrine and Covenants 89–92.
Joseph Smith held meetings to teach people about the gospel. Sometimes the men smoked and chewed tobacco.
This worried Emma Smith. The smoke and tobacco made a big mess, and something didn’t feel right about it. Emma and Joseph wondered how God felt about it.
Joseph prayed, and the Lord answered. The Lord warned members of the Church about smoking and tobacco. He said they aren’t good for our bodies. He also warned them about drinking tea, coffee, and alcohol.
God said to eat fruits, vegetables, and other healthy foods. We call these teachings the Word of Wisdom.
I can live the Word of Wisdom. Heavenly Father will bless me as I take care of my body.
