What Should I Focus On?

As a stake temple and family history consultant, you help support temple and family history efforts throughout the stake. You support high councilors and the stake Relief Society presidency in their efforts to instruct others in temple and family history work. You also help teach and support members who have ward temple and family history callings.

Lead in the Savior’s Way

You are a disciple of Jesus Christ. Discipleship includes loving, teaching, leading, and serving others. President Henry B. Eyring taught: “You are called to represent the Savior. Your voice to testify becomes the same as His voice, your hands to lift the same as His hands” (“Rise to Your Call,” Ensign or Liahona, Nov. 2002, 76).

The following principles will help you as you fulfill your calling:

  • Pray to be led by the Holy Ghost.

  • Prepare ahead of time to help each leader, individual, or family you work with have a personalized experience with their temple and family history work.

  • Minister to the one.

  • Invite others to act.

Learn more about these principles by reading “A New Approach to Temple and Family History Consulting,” FamilySearch Blog, Jan. 4, 2019, FamilySearch.org/blog.

Understand Stake and Ward Leaders’ Responsibilities and Assignments Related to Temple and Family History Work

A great part of your service is helping stake leaders in their responsibilities to instruct ward leaders in temple and family history work. Learn about all callings that have responsibilities related to temple and family history work by studying chapter 25 of the General Handbook. Prayerfully consider ways you might suggest supporting members with these callings under the direction of your priesthood leader.

Understand the Responsibilities of Ward Temple and Family History Callings

As part of your service, you will help teach and support members in ward temple and family history callings. These include the ward temple and family history leaders and ward temple and family history consultants. Learn more about these callings by studying the instructions for those callings that are found in the “Temple and Family History” callings section of the Gospel Library. Prayerfully consider ways you might suggest supporting them under the direction of your priesthood leader.
