My Calling as a Ward Mission Leader

What Should I Focus On?

As you fulfill your calling as the ward mission leader, the following principles will help you focus your missionary efforts:

  • Seek inspiration, be willing to adjust, and be open to new and creative ideas. In addition to using resources from the Church, be open to impressions or ideas for ways you can help meet the specific needs of those you are serving.

  • Respond to spiritual promptings. If you have an idea that “inviteth and enticeth to do good, and to love God, and to serve him,” act on it (Moroni 7:13).

  • Evaluate your priorities and what you are doing to work toward the goals of the ward mission plan. Ask yourself, “How does this activity lead to achieving one or more of these goals?”

  • Focus on people and meeting their needs.

Your goals, plans, meetings, and one-on-one interactions should focus on:

  • Helping find, teach, and baptize individuals and families.

  • Sharing the gospel with friends, family, associates, and others face-to-face and through technology.

  • Establishing a spirit of goodwill within the community.

  • Helping individuals and families who are being taught the gospel to make covenants and become integrated into the ward family.

  • Teaching new members and helping them keep baptismal covenants, enter into temple and priesthood covenants, and successfully transition into the ward and into living the gospel.
