“Chapter 42: The Rich Young Man,” New Testament Stories (2005), 105–6 “Chapter 42,” New Testament Stories, 105–6 Chapter 42 1:14The Rich Young Man One day a rich young man came to Jesus and asked Him what he should do to go to heaven. Mark 10:17 The Savior told him to love and honor his father and mother and not to kill anyone or lie or steal. The rich young man said he had always obeyed the commandments. Mark 10:19–20 Jesus told the young man that he needed to do one more thing. He needed to sell everything he had and give the money to the poor. Then the young man should follow Him. Mark 10:21 The rich young man did not want to give away everything he had. He loved the things he owned more than he loved God. The young man left feeling sad. Mark 10:22 The Savior told His disciples that it is hard for those who love riches to go to heaven. The disciples did not understand. They asked who can live with God. Jesus said that people who trust God and love Him more than anything else can live with Him in heaven. Mark 10:23–30 (see footnote 27a)
