Effective Coordination with Missionaries
Elders quorum and Relief Society presidencies take the lead in helping inspire members to love God’s children, share the gospel, and invite others to receive the Savior’s blessings (see General Handbook: Serving in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 23.5.2, Gospel Library). As leaders, know that your efforts are significantly enhanced when members and missionaries coordinate their efforts to bring people to Christ.
One of the best ways to align efforts to bring others to Christ is to hold brief, informal weekly meetings where “local leaders and [missionaries] coordinate efforts to share the gospel and strengthen new and returning members” (Preach My Gospel: A Guide to Sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ [2023], 221).
Weekly coordination meetings should focus on individuals and address these four questions from Preach My Gospel:
-
How can we help those being taught?
-
How can we help those who were recently baptized?
-
How can we help returning members?
-
How can we find more people to teach?
Weekly coordination meetings are also great times to think about community needs that Church resources could help address. These meetings are also a time to build upon ways that members are already sharing the gospel and identify ward or stake activities that members can invite friends and people in the community to attend.
