Windows of Light:
The 1986 New Era Contest Winners

“And the light which shineth, which giveth you light, is through him who enlighteneth your eyes, which is the same light that quickeneth your understandings;

“Which light proceedeth forth from the presence of God to fill the immensity of space” (D&C 88:11–12).

We asked you for light and we got it. Shimmering through the windows of your God-given talents, it became a rainbow of sounds, images, thoughts, and feelings. It was worthy of its Source.

The light of your poetry fell on sea lambs floating through haze; a two-wheeled stallion; lime green rivulets of sno-cone; a wise old speaker quoting Haggai; a quilted heaven; a sun that melts chocolate and blows ginger; red, slush watermelons; a girl standing tall as she bows in prayer; a buffalo like an aged scholar; and dancers of light in the night sky.

The winning article glows with the light of prayer. The fiction blazes with a message of tolerance and love. The winning song sparkles with the radiance of our Heavenly Father’s caring. The hymn gleams with the wonder of the Atonement. Art highlights the many different lights in which familiar things can be seen, and the photographs reflect the glory of God shining in the faces of his children.
