“May Daze,” New Era, May 1988, 51
May Daze
We peer out early
lest some bud
has opened without
supervision,
or adolescent
lilac leaf
has formed in young
but wise precision.
With that presumption
we call them ours;
unselfish though
we gaily share them.
But, if the truth be known,
dear Lord, we borrowed all.
You have prepared them.
