Let’s learn more about Raksha Bandhan!

Raksha Bandhan is observed by millions of people around the world, particularly in India, Pakistan, and other areas of South Asia.

It’s a Hindu tradition where sisters and brothers (either biological or close friends) honor one another. The date changes every year, like Easter does, but this year it’s August 19.

Traditionally, a sister will tie an amulet called a “rakhi” around her brother’s wrist, symbolizing the bond between them. Then the brother gives his sister a small gift and promises to protect her and support her.

Do you have any siblings, or friends who feel like brothers and sisters to you? Maybe this would be a great time to show them a little extra love!

Family History Connection

Did your parents have any siblings? Or friends who were as close as siblings? What were they like? Did they exchange any gifts that were special?
