Lamanite Daughter
Eliza R. Snow Poetry Contest 1981 2nd Place Winner
Trepidation trailed us through
The turbulence of summer,
Through the active anxious days,
That summer of our waiting,
Trailed us through the waning, waiting days
Until the autumn brought her
Timid, trembling, trusting to us,
Brought her future facing to us.
She slid softly through us in
The sunshine of September,
Through the rainstorms, through the snowstorms
Of the winter of our dreams,
Slid around and through us
Weaving past to future:
Love fulfilling promises
Whispered from the dust.
