“Summer Prayer,” Friend, Aug.–Sept. 1980, 31
Summer Prayer
I climbed the rocks that lined the shore
like giant turtle shells.
I climbed up high so I could watch
the ocean toss and swell.
A seal lay floating on his back,
his tummy round and full.
A school of snappers swam nearby
while skyward rose a gull.
I lifted up my eyes in prayer
to heaven, clear and blue.
Dear Father, who created all,
a humble thanks to You.
