Based on personal hatred, Haman, chief aide of Persian King Ahasuerus, deceitfully obtained a royal decree that all Jews be put to death. Unknown to the king, his queen, Esther, was a Jew. To save her people, Esther risked her life by revealing her nationality to the king and denouncing Haman’s plot (see Esth. 7).
