Ko Hotau Moʻuiʻangá

Fakatauange te tau poto ke falala pea muimui ki he faleʻi ʻa e kau palōfita moʻuí mo e kau ʻaposetoló.

Elder Kevin R. Duncan

Ne faingataʻa mo fakamamahi e faʻahitaʻu momoko ʻo e 1848 ki he kau paionia ne nofo he Teleʻa Sōlekí. Ne fakahā ʻe Pilikihami ʻIongi ʻi he faʻahitaʻu māfana ʻo e 1847 kuo aʻu e Kāingalotú ki he ngataʻanga ʻenau fonongá. Kuo kātekina ʻe he kau fuofua mēmipa ʻo e Siasí ha ngaahi faingataʻa lahi ʻi he kamata ke tupu e ongoongolelei ne Toe Fakafoki Maí. Ne tuli kinautolu mei honau ngaahi ʻapí, fakatangaʻi, pea ngaohikovia. Kuo nau foua ha ngaahi faingataʻa fakalilifu heʻenau fononga mai he tokaleleí. Ka ko ʻeni kuo nau ʻi he “feituʻu totonú.”

Neongo iá, ne fuʻu vivili moʻoni e faʻahitaʻu momoko ʻo e 1848. Ne fuʻu momoko pea mate ngūngū e vaʻe ʻo e kakai ʻe niʻihi. Ne kamata ke taʻe fiemālie e Kāingalotú. Ne pehē ʻe he Kāingalotu ʻe niʻihi he ʻikai langa honau ʻapí he teleʻá. Ne nau fie nofo pē heʻenau salioté, he naʻa nau fakapapauʻi ʻe tataki kinautolu ‘e he kau taki ‘o e Siasí ki ha feituʻu ʻe lelei angé. Ne nau ʻomi e tengaʻi ʻakau mo e ʻakau fua, ka naʻe ʻikai ke nau fie tō ia ʻe kinautolu he toafa pakukaá. Naʻe hanga ʻe Simi Pilisa, ko ha tangata fakatotolo ʻiloa, ʻo tala kia Pilikihami ʻIongi te ne ʻoange ha paʻanga ʻe tahaafe ki he ʻuluaki haʻinga koane he Teleʻa Sōlekí, he naʻá ne pehē he ʻikai pē lava ia.2

Ne toe faingataʻa angé, he ne toki maʻu e koulá ʻi Kalefōnia.

Lolotonga e taʻe fiemālié ni, ne lea ʻa Pilikihami ʻIongi ki he Kāingalotú. Naʻá ne pehē:

“[Ko e teleʻa ʻeni] kuo finangalo ʻa e ʻOtuá ke nofo ai Hono kakaí.

Kuo tuli mai kitautolu mei he veʻe afí ki he loto afí, pea mei he loto afí ki he loto falikí, pea ko ʻeni kuo tau aʻu mai ki heni, pea ko e feituʻu ʻeni te tau nofo aí. Kuo fakahā mai ʻe he ʻOtuá ko e feituʻu ʻeni maʻa Hono kakaí, pea ko ʻeni e feituʻu te nau tuʻumālie aí; te Ne fakamolū e ngaahi ʻelemēnití maʻá e lelei Hono Kāingalotú; te Ne valokiʻi e momokó, mo e kakā ʻa e kelekelé, pea ʻe mahu e fonuá. Ngaahi tokoua, mou ō he taimí ni, pea tō … hoʻomou … tengaʻi ʻakaú.”

Ne ʻikai ngata ʻi hono talaʻofa mai ʻo e ngaahi tāpuakí ni, ka naʻe pehē ʻe Palesiteni ʻIongi ʻe hoko ʻa e Teleʻa Sōlekí ko e fetaulakiʻanga ia ʻo e ngaahi puleʻangá. ʻE ʻaʻahi mai ha ngaahi tuʻi mo ha kau ʻemipola ki he fonuá. Ka ko e mahuʻinga tahá, ʻe langa ai e temipale ʻo e ʻEikí.3

Ko e ngaahi talaʻofa mahuʻinga ʻeni. Ne tokolahi e Kāingalotu ne tui ki he ngaahi kikite ʻa Pilikihami ʻIongí, kae taʻe tui ha niʻihi ʻo hiki ki he feituʻu ne nau mahalo ʻe maʻu ai ha moʻui ʻoku lelei angé. Ka kuo tala ʻe he hisitōliá ne hoko e kikite kotoa ne fai ʻe Pilikihami ʻIongí. Ne matala mo mahu e teleʻá. Ne tuʻumālie e Kāingalotú. Ko e faʻahitaʻu momoko ʻo e 1848 ko ha founga lelei ia ʻa e ʻEikí ke akoʻi ai ha lēsoni mahuʻinga ki Hono kakaí. Naʻa nau ako—pea tau ako kotoa ai—ko e hala pau mo malu ke tau hao ai he moʻui ní ʻoku maʻu ia ʻi he falala mo e talangofua ki he faleʻi ʻa e kau palōfita ʻa e ʻOtuá.

Ko e moʻoni, ko e taha e ngaahi tāpuaki māʻolunga tahá ko hono tataki e kāingalotú ʻe he kau palōfita moʻui ʻa e ʻOtuá. Naʻe folofola ʻa e ʻEikí, “Pea ko e toko taha pē ʻi he māmaní ʻi ha taimi ʻe taha ʻa ia ʻoku foaki ki ai ʻa e mālohí ni mo e ngaahi kī ʻo e lakanga fakataulaʻeiki ko ʻení.”4 ʻOku maʻu ʻe he palōfita mo e Palesiteni ʻo e Siasí he ʻahó ni, ko Tōmasi S. Monisoní, ʻa e folofola ʻa e ʻOtuá maʻá e kotoa e kāingalotu ʻo e Siasí pea mo e māmaní. Tānaki atu ki aí, ʻoku tau hikinimaʻi ʻa e ongo tokoni ʻi he Kau Palesitenisī ʻUluakí pea mo e kau mēmipa ʻo e Kōlomu ʻo e Kau ʻAposetolo ʻe Toko Hongofulu Mā Uá ko e kau palōfita, kau tangata kikite, mo e kau tangata maʻu fakahā.

Ko e moʻoni ne fie maʻu ʻe he fuofua Kāingalotú ha tui ke falala ki he palōfitá ʻi he mokoʻīʻī honau vaʻé pea kakā mo e kelekelé. Ne nau ʻi ha tuʻunga fakatuʻutāmaki. Ka naʻe fakapaleʻi ʻe he ʻEikí ʻenau talangofuá pea tāpuakiʻi mo fakatupulaki kinautolu ne muimui ki Hono leʻó.

Pea ʻoku fai ʻe he ʻEikí e meʻa tatau maʻatautolu he ʻahó ni. ʻOku fonu e māmaní he ngaahi tohi kehekehe, kau mataotao, kau ʻatamaiʻia, kau ako, mo e kau filōsefa kuo nau faleʻi mo ʻomi ha ngaahi fakakaukau ʻi ha faʻahinga meʻa pē. ʻI he tekinolosia ʻo e ʻaho ní, ʻe maʻu e fakamatala ki ha faʻahinga meʻa pē mei he ʻinitanetí. ʻOku faingofua ke fihia he tauhele ko e falala ki he “nima ʻo e kakanó”5 ki ha faleʻi he meʻa kotoa fekauʻaki mo hono ohi ʻo e fānaú ki he founga ke maʻu ai e fiefiá. Neongo ʻoku lelei e ngaahi fakamatala ʻe niʻihi, ka ʻoku tau maʻu ʻi heʻetau hoko ko e mēmipa ʻo e Siasí, ʻa e maʻuʻanga moʻoni haohaoá, ʻa ia ko e ʻOtuá. ʻOku lelei ke fekumi ki he tali ʻetau ngaahi palopalemá mo e fehuʻí, ʻaki ha fakatotolo ʻi he meʻa kuo fakahā ʻe he ʻEikí ki Heʻene kau palōfitá. Ko e hā kuo akoʻi mai ʻe he ʻOtuá kau ki he nofomalí mo e fāmilí ʻi Heʻene kau palōfitá? Ko e hā kuó Ne akoʻi mai fekauʻaki mo e akó mo e moʻui fakapotopotó ʻi Heʻene kau palōfitá? Ko e hā kuó Ne akoʻi mai fekauʻaki mo e fiefia fakatāutahá mo e lavameʻá ʻi Heʻene kau palōfitá?

ʻE ngali fakakuongamuʻa, taʻemanakoa pe taʻe malava e meʻa ʻoku akoʻi ʻe he kau palōfitá. “Ko e moʻoni ʻe ʻikai fai ha meʻa ʻe [he ʻEiki] ko e ʻOtuá, kae taʻe fakahā ia ki heʻene kau tamaioʻeiki ko e kau palōfita”6. ʻI he kamataʻanga e kuonga fakakosipelí ni, ‘o e kakato ʻo e ngaahi kuongá, ne toe fakapapauʻi mai ʻe he ʻEikí te Ne fetuʻutaki mo kitautolu ʻi Heʻene kau palōfitá. Naʻá ne pehē: “[Ko] ʻeku leá … ʻe fakamoʻoniʻi hono kotoa, neongo pe ko e fai ia ʻi hoku leʻo pē ʻoʻokú pe ʻi he leʻo ʻo ʻeku kau tamaioʻeikí, ʻoku tatau ai pē.”7

ʻOku mahulu hake e falala mo e muimui he palōfitá ʻi ha tāpuaki mo ha faingamālie. Naʻe pehē ʻe Palesiteni ʻEselā Tafu Penisoni “ʻoku makatuʻunga hotau fakamoʻuí” he muimui ki he palōfitá. Naʻá ne fakamatalaʻi e meʻa naʻá ne ui ko e “Ngaahi Meʻa Mahuʻinga ʻe Hongofulu Mā Fā ke Muimui ki he Palōfitá.” ʻI he fakataha ʻo e pongipongi ní, ne fakahinohinoʻi lelei kitautolu ʻe ʻEletā Kalauta Kositā ʻo e Kau Palesitenisī ʻo e Kau Fitungofulú ʻi he ngaahi meʻa mahuʻinga ko ʻeni ʻe 14.

“ʻUluakí: Ko e palōfitá ʻa e tangata pē taha ʻe lea maʻá e ʻEikí he meʻa kotoa pē.

“Faá: He ʻikai lava ke takihalaʻi e Siasí ʻe he palōfitá.

“Nimá: ʻOku ʻikai fie maʻu e palōfitá ke ʻi ai ha faʻahinga ako fakamāmani pe tuʻunga fakaako kae toki lea ki ha faʻahinga kaveinga pe ngāue ki ha faʻahinga meʻa ʻi ha faʻahinga taimi pē.

“Onó: ʻOku ʻikai fie maʻu ke toki pehē e palōfitá, ʻPea naʻe folofola ʻa e ʻEikí’ kae toki lau ko e folofola.

“Fitu: ʻOku talamai ʻe he palōfitá e meʻa ʻoku fie maʻu ke tau ʻiló, ʻikai ko e meʻa ʻoku tau loto ke ʻiló.

“Valú: ʻOku ʻikai taʻotaʻofi e palōfitá ʻe he ʻuhinga ʻa e tangatá.

“Hivá: ʻE lava ke maʻu ʻe he palōfitá ha fakahā ki ha faʻahinga meʻa fakatuʻasino pe fakalaumālie.

“Hongofulú: ʻE lava ke kau e palōfitá ʻi he ngaahi meʻa fakapuleʻangá.

“Hongofulu mā tahá: Ko e ongo kulupu ʻoku faingataʻa taha ke muimui ki he palōfitá ʻa e laukau ʻoku akó mo e laukau ʻoku koloaʻiá.

“Hongofulu mā uá: ʻOku ʻikai manakoa e palōfitá ʻe he māmaní pe kau anga fakamāmaní.

“Hongofulu mā tolú: ʻOku hoko e palōfitá mo hono ongo tokoní ko e Kau Palesitenisī ʻUluakí—ko e kōlomu māʻolunga taha ia ʻi he Siasí.

“Hongofulu mā fā: [Muimui] … ki he palōfita moʻuí mo e Kau Palesitenisī ʻUluakí … pea te ke monūʻia; fakafisingaʻi kinautolu peá ke faingataʻaʻia.”8

ʻE kāinga, hangē ko e Kāingalotu ʻo e 1848, te tau lava ʻo fili ke muimui he palōfitá, pe falala ki he nima ʻo e kakanó. Fakatauange te tau maʻu e poto ke falala pea muimui ki he faleʻi ʻa e kau palōfita moʻuí mo e kau ʻaposetoló. ʻOku ou fakamoʻoniʻi honau leleí. ʻOku ou fakamoʻoni ko e ui kinautolu ʻe he ʻOtuá. ʻOku ou fakamoʻoni ʻoku ʻikai ha founga lelei ange ki he moʻuí, pe tali ki heʻetau ngaahi palopalemá, mo maʻu e melino mo e fiefia ʻi he māmaní, pea mo maluʻi hotau fakamoʻuí ka ko e talangofua ki heʻenau ngaahi leá. Ko ʻeku fakamoʻoní ia ʻi he huafa toputapu ʻo e ʻEiki ko Sīsū Kalaisí, ʻēmeni.
