How Does Baptism Demonstrate Obedience?
Our Savior is the perfect example of obedience to Heavenly Father, declaring, “I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me” (John 5:30).
The Savior was baptized to show His exact obedience to Heavenly Father. Likewise, when we show our obedience by being baptized, we enter into a covenant with God to be dedicated, obedient disciples of Jesus Christ. (See 2 Nephi 31:5–13.)
One illustration of the Savior’s obedience is found in the account of His baptism:
“Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.
“But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?
“And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness” (Matthew 3:13–15).
