Inviting the Spirit into Our Lives

Jesus breaking bread

The Last Supper, by Simon Dewey

The Last Supper was more than a meal for the Apostles; it was a miraculous and sacred moment to be in their Lord’s presence. The sacramental prayers extend a similar miracle to us as we are blessed with His Spirit to be with us (see Doctrine and Covenants 20:77, 79). How can we, like the Apostles, feel close to the Savior’s presence?

In his article on page 4, Elder David A. Bednar explains that “our sacred responsibility is to develop holy habits that invite the Spirit of the Lord to be with us at all times.” Following the counsel in his article can help us develop the holy habits that, though they may be small, can move us closer to Jesus Christ.

On page 40, I share my experience losing my husband, who became sick while we were living in the Europe East Area. Though this was a difficult time for me, it was the experience that came to mind as I wrestled with how to talk about the miracle of experiencing the Savior’s mercy in unexpected ways.

What a miracle it is to feel the Lord’s presence in our moments of solitude, trial, and weakness. We can choose to develop holy habits that will invite the Spirit into our lives. I pray that we will seek the strength and guidance God is willing to grant us through the supernal gift of the Holy Ghost.

Sincerely,
