Deeper Connections to Christ
Dear Parents,
This month’s issue features articles that teach us how we can deepen our connections to Jesus Christ. As a family, you can review the role of the Holy Ghost in leading us to our Savior, the sanctifying power of Jesus Christ as we partake of the sacrament, and the divine mercy available through the Savior’s Atonement.
Gospel Discussions
A Covenant Connection
Share with your family some teachings from Elder David A. Bednar’s article on page 4. Talk with your family about the covenants each person has made or will make. What role does the Holy Ghost play in helping us keep our covenants and remember Jesus Christ?
Roles of the Holy Ghost
Using the Gospel Basics article on page 22, talk with your family about who the Holy Ghost is and what roles He plays in Heavenly Father’s plan. Share experiences in which you have felt the Holy Ghost or followed His promptings.
Divine Mercy
On page 40, President Susan H. Porter gives insights into the account of Jesus healing the ear of a man sent to arrest Him. Read the article and then discuss with your family the role of mercy for both the man and Peter, who cut off the ear. Have there been times when you needed one or both of these types of mercy?
Come, Follow Me Family Fun
Strengthen Others
Jesus Christ gave Peter this counsel on conversion: “When thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren” (Luke 22:32).
-
Read Luke 22:32 with your family.
-
Invite family members to sit on the floor.
-
Ask them to try to stand up without using their hands for balance.
-
Choose two family members to sit on the floor, back-to-back, linking arms.
-
Instruct the family members to push against each other at the same time and stand up. By working together, standing becomes easier.
-
Repeat the game until everyone has a chance to work together.
Discussion: When we are truly converted to the gospel of Jesus Christ, we can strengthen others. What are some ways Heavenly Father can strengthen us? How can we use our conversion to strengthen others?
