A Revelation for Emma
Chosen by the Lord to do His work
Life was changing very quickly for Emma and Joseph. The Lord told Joseph that he should stop focusing on farming. Instead, Joseph should spend his time teaching people about Jesus Christ and helping the Lord’s Church grow.
Doctrine and Covenants 24:7–9; Saints, 1:96
Emma had many questions about this change. She did not know what she should do while Joseph was serving the Lord. Would she also help the Lord and His Church?
Saints, 1:96
The Lord spoke to Emma through a revelation given to Joseph. He called her “Emma Smith, my daughter.” He told Emma that He had chosen her and called her to do His work. She was a special woman, and He had great things for her to do.
The Lord asked Emma to travel with Joseph. The Lord said that Emma would explain the scriptures and teach the members of the Church. He told Emma to put Him first in her life and keep her covenants. He promised Emma she would have His Spirit. He wanted her to learn, grow, and receive His blessings.
Doctrine and Covenants 25:2, 6–10, 15
The Lord also told Emma that He loves to hear His children sing. He said the songs of His Saints are like a prayer to Him. He asked Emma to make a book of hymns that the Saints could sing from together. Emma found many beautiful songs about the Lord and His gospel and put them into a hymnbook.
Doctrine and Covenants 25:11–12; Saints, 1:221–22
Emma and Joseph’s life continued to change, but Emma knew that the Lord loved her and had a purpose for her. She served the Lord and the people around her. She helped Jesus’s Church to grow.
Doctrine and Covenants 25:13–15; Saints, 1:221–23
