About the Doctrine and Covenants
The Lord speaks again
Our Heavenly Father loves us. He wants us to make covenants, or promises, with Him so that He can bless us. He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to be our Savior and help us return to Him.
God also sends prophets to teach us about Jesus Christ and His commandments. Prophets serve Jesus Christ and help lead His Church.
Jesus tells the prophets what to teach us. The words of prophets from long ago are written in scriptures like the Bible and the Book of Mormon.
For many years after Jesus was on earth, there were no prophets. People were not making and keeping covenants with God. The Church of Jesus Christ was not on the earth.
But then God called Joseph Smith to be a prophet. Joseph was just a young man, but God had something very important for him to do.
Joseph Smith taught about Jesus. He helped organize Jesus’s Church. Jesus taught Joseph Smith His gospel and how to lead His Church.
Many things Jesus told Joseph Smith are written in the Doctrine and Covenants. The Doctrine and Covenants is a book of scripture like the Bible and the Book of Mormon.
Doctrine and Covenants Stories tells how Jesus brought back, or restored, His Church, with help from the Prophet Joseph Smith and others. Members of the Church are called Saints. These stories show that God loves His children all over the world. He wants to bless us as we make covenants with Him.
