A Mission to Native Americans

The Delaware Indians hear the gospel

Soon after Parley Pratt was baptized, the Lord called him to join Oliver Cowdery and others on a mission. He wanted them to preach the gospel to Native Americans. The missionaries traveled for many weeks through deep snow. Finally, they met Kikthawenund, chief of the Delaware Indians.

The chief was friendly to the missionaries. He invited his friends to hear their message. Oliver said he and Parley had traveled far to bring them the Book of Mormon. It tells of people who lived in the Americas long ago. God wanted them to share the book so everyone could know about Jesus Christ.

Oliver gave Kikthawenund a copy of the Book of Mormon. He was thankful that Oliver and his friends had come so far to share it with his people. He told Oliver and Parley that he wanted them to come back to read to them and teach them more about the Book of Mormon.
