Lucy Morley and Her Family
Many believe and are baptized
One day, 15-year-old Lucy Morley was helping her neighbor, Abigail Daniels, weave cloth. As they worked, they heard a knock at the door. It was three missionaries. Abigail invited them in. They said that Jesus Christ had sent them to share a message.
Saints, 1:102–3
The men told Abigail and Lucy that Jesus had called Joseph Smith to be a prophet. They also told them about the Book of Mormon.
Saints, 1:103
To Lucy’s surprise, Abigail became angry. She made the missionaries leave her house.
Saints, 1:103
Lucy knew these missionaries were servants of God. She told them to visit her family down the road. “My father lives one mile from here,” she said. “Go there and you will be fed and cared for.”
Saints, 1:103–4
Lucy was right. The missionaries had a good meal at the Morley family farm. Lucy’s parents were friends of Sidney Rigdon. They believed Jesus wanted them to share everything they had with others. They invited the missionaries to teach them and their friends.
Saints, 1:104
That night, at about midnight, 17 people were baptized. In the next few days, 50 more people came to the Morley farm to hear the missionaries, and they asked to be baptized. Even Lucy’s friend Abigail Daniels changed her mind about the missionaries. She and her husband decided to join the Church.
