Ko Hono Tanumaki ʻo e Hoa Ngāue Taʻengata ʻi he Nofomalí

“ʻOku fisikituʻa e ongo fakafiefia taha ʻo e moʻuí, mo e ngaahi ongoʻi ʻofa mo fakafiemālie taha ʻo e loto ʻo e tangatá ʻi ha nofomali ʻoku haohaoa mo taʻemele mei he kovi ʻo e māmaní.”

Mei he Moʻui ʻa Kōtoni B. Hingikelií

ʻI ha efiafi ʻe taha ʻi ha tangutu fakalongolongo fakataha ʻa Palesiteni mo Sisitā Hingikelī, kuo pehē ange ʻa Sisitā Hingikelī, “Kuó ke tuku maʻu pē ke u fai hoku lotó, pea kuó u ʻofa kiate koe he meʻa ko iá.”1 Naʻe pehē ʻe Palesiteni Hingikelī fekauʻaki mo e lea ko ia hono uaifí, “Kuó u feinga ke u fakatokangaʻi fakafoʻituitui pē [ia], hono ʻulungāngá, ʻene ngaahi fie maʻú, hono puipuituʻá, mo ʻene ngaahi fakaʻamú. Tuku ke ne tauʻatāina. ʻIo, tuku ke ne tauʻatāina! Tuku ke ne fakatupulaki hono ngaahi talēnití. Tuku ke ne fai e meʻá ʻi heʻene foungá. Mavahe ki he tafaʻakí, peá ke ofo ʻi he meʻa ʻokú ne faí.”2 Naʻe poupou pehē mo Sisitā Hingikelī ki hono husepānití—ʻi hono tuʻunga ko e tamaí, meʻa naʻe mahuʻingaʻia fakafoʻituitui aí, pea mo ʻene ngaahi ngāue kehekehe ʻi he Siasí.

Ko e konga lahi taha ʻo e ngaahi taʻu ʻo ʻena tupu haké, naʻe nofo ʻa Kōtoni B. Hingikelī mo Māsilī Pei ʻi he uooti tatau, pea ʻi ha ngaahi taʻu lahi, naʻá na nofo fehāngaaki he ongo kauhalá. Naʻe pehē ki mui ʻe Palesiteni Hingikelī, “Naʻá ku fuofua fakatokangaʻi ia ʻi he Palaimelí.” “Naʻá ne fai ha laukonga. ‘ʻOku ʻikai ke u ʻilo pe ko e hā e meʻa naʻe hoko kiate aú, ka naʻe ʻikai toe ngalo ia. Pea tupu ai ʻo hoko ko ha finemui hoihoifua, peá u maʻu e fakakaukau lelei ke mali mo ia.”3

Naʻá na fuofua teiti—ʻi ha hulohula faka-Siasi—ʻi he taʻu 19 ʻa [Kōtoní] kae taʻu 18 ʻa [Māsilī]. Naʻe talaange ʻe Māsilī ki heʻene faʻeé ʻi heʻene ʻosí, “ʻE hoko e talavoú ni ko ha taha mahuʻinga.”4 Naʻe hoko atu e tupulaki ʻena feohí ʻi he lolotonga ako ʻa Kōtoni he ʻUnivēsiti ʻo ʻIutaá. Pea ʻi he 1933, ko e ʻosi ia e taʻu ʻe taha ʻene ʻosi mei he akó, kuo ui ia ke ngāue fakafaifekau ki ʻIngilani. Ko e taimi naʻe foki mai ai ʻi he 1935, ne hoko atu ʻena kaumeʻá, pea ʻi he 1937, naʻá na mali ai ʻi he Temipale Sōlekí. Naʻe pehē ʻe Sisitā Hingikelī ʻi heʻene manatu ki he konga kimuʻa ʻo ʻena nofo malí:

“Naʻe siʻi ʻa e paʻangá, ka naʻá ma fonu ʻi he ʻamanaki mo e fakatuʻamelie. Naʻe ʻikai fakafiefia maʻu pē ngaahi fuofua ʻaho ko iá, ka naʻe fonu ʻi he loto fakapapau mo e holi lahi ke fokotuʻu ha ʻapi fiefia. Naʻá ma feʻofaʻaki, ʻoku ʻikai ha veiveiua he meʻa ko iá. Ka naʻe pau foki ke ma feʻilongaki. Te u pehē kuo pau ke feʻilongaki ʻa e mātuʻa mali kotoa pē.

Naʻe ui ʻa Palesiteni Hingikelī ko ha Taki Māʻolunga ʻi he 1958, pea ʻi he lolotonga ʻo e ngaahi fuofua taʻu ʻo ʻene ngāué, naʻe meimei ke nofo pē ʻa Sisitā Hingikelī ʻi ʻapi ʻo tokangaʻi ʻena fānau ʻe toko nimá kae fefonongaʻaki [ʻa Palesiteni Hingikelī] ia ʻi he ngaahi ngāue ʻa e Siasí. Naʻe hoko e taʻu 40 ʻo ʻena nofomalí ʻi ʻEpeleli 1977, lolotonga haʻana fononga lōloa ke feʻiloaki mo e Kāingalotu ʻi ʻAositelēliá.

… Ne ma fekuki mo ha ngaahi faingataʻa mo e ngaahi palopalema. Ka ko e fakalūkufuá, ne lelei ʻa e moʻuí. Naʻe ʻikai toe foki mai hono iví peá ne mālōlō ai pē he ʻaho 6 ʻo ʻEpeleli 2004. Naʻe pehē ʻe Palesiteni Hingikelī ʻi he ʻosi ha māhina ʻe ono mei ai, ʻi he konifelenisi lahi ʻo ʻOkatopá:

“ʻI heʻeku puke hono nimá mo sio ki he mahuʻi atu ʻa e moʻui fakamatelié mei hono ʻuluʻulutuhú, te u talaatu, naʻe ongo kiate au. Naʻá ne hoko ko e taʻahine naʻá ku fakaʻānaua ke u mali mo iá, kimuʻa peá ma malí. … ʻE lava nai ke fakaveiveiua ha taha ʻoku tui ki he moʻui taʻengatá ʻe foaki ʻe he ʻOtua ʻo e langí ki Hono ngaahi fohá mo e ngaahi ʻofefiné ʻa e ʻulungāanga mahuʻinga taha ʻo e moʻuí, ʻa e ʻofa ko ia ʻoku mahuʻingamālie taha hono fakahaaʻí ʻi he ngaahi vā fetuʻutaki fakafāmilí? ʻIkai, ʻoku fie maʻu ʻe he ʻuhingá ia ke hoko atu ʻa e ngaahi fetuʻutaki fakafāmilí ʻi he hili ʻa e maté. ʻOku fakaʻānaua ia ʻe he loto ʻo e tangatá, pea kuo ʻosi fakahā ʻe he ʻOtua ʻo e langí ha founga ke lava ʻo maʻu ai ʻeni. ʻOku fakahoko ʻe he ngaahi ouau toputapu ʻi he fale ʻo e ʻEikí e meʻa ko iá.12
