Sustained by My Visiting Teacher
I served as a ward Relief Society president for ten months. During that time, through remarriage, our family grew from five to ten children, all under twelve years of age. I was also expecting our sixth child. My visiting teacher was always there to help in any way I needed, but her most touching act of kindness occurred the day after I was released from the presidency.
It had been a special calling for me. I had grown spiritually as I helped the sisters of the ward, even though I was concerned about caring for my ten children. Still, I accepted my release with reluctance. Then my visiting teacher came over with a yellow rose, my favorite flower, and said, “Happy release! Welcome back to the neighborhood!” As we embraced each other I realized that my spiritual growth had not stopped, but merely shifted to another area of emphasis. Barbara L. Brown, Yuma, Arizona
