杰森不像其他孩子那样喜欢踢足球。

每天的下课时间，杰森都会坐在树荫下看书，而大部分的孩子都在踢足球。杰森曾经和他们一起玩过，但是他不太喜欢。他跑得不是很快，也不太会踢球，身边有一堆小孩在奔跑、喊叫，也让他觉得不太舒服。

不过，杰森不喜欢孤单和被冷落的感觉。其他的孩子好像玩得很开心！他也想和朋友在一起开心地玩。

有一天的下课时间，原本看着书的杰森抬起头来，注意到琪拉正坐在野餐桌前看书。然后，他看到马可对着墙踢着石头。为什么他们不和其他人一样踢足球呢？

第二天，杰森又观察了一下，琪拉和昨天一样在野餐桌旁看书，马可则坐在地上用手指转着草玩。杰森继续看自己的书，但却不时望向琪拉和马可。也许他们也喜欢安静的活动。

那天下午，杰森找妈妈说话。「每天下课时间我都在看书，」他说，「其他的孩子都踢足球。」

「这没什么不好的，」妈妈笑着说，「我在你这个年纪时也是一样。一直都在看书。」

杰森也笑了。他很喜欢和妈妈一起看书。

「我以为只有我不喜欢足球，」杰森说，「但是还有另外两个小孩也不踢足球。」他告诉妈妈琪拉和马可的事。

「或许你可以当他们的朋友。」妈妈说。

杰森点了点头。「或许吧。不过我不知道要跟他们一起做什么。」

「嗯，你和琪拉都喜欢看书。不过看书只能自己一个人做，」妈妈说。「你还喜欢做什么呢？」

「我喜欢玩西洋跳棋，」杰森说，「而且学校有一个棋盘。」

「喔，」妈妈说，「你可以用棋盘做什么呢？也许在下课的时候？」她假装在想这个问题。

杰森笑了出来。「我想我知道了。」

第二天，下课钟声一响，杰森便抓起西洋跳棋组。他走到野餐桌前，琪拉正在那里看书。她抬起头来看到他举起了棋盘。「想来场循环赛吗？」

「也许吧，」她说，「但是我们只有两个人。」

「等一下，」杰森说。他跑向再度坐在草地上马可。

「嘿，马可，」杰森说，「你想玩西洋跳棋吗？我们可以玩循环赛。」

马可笑了，说：「我会跟我爸一起玩西洋跳棋，我蛮会玩的。」

「好！」杰森也对着他笑，「我们一起玩吧。」●

这个故事发生在美国。
