Ko e konga lahi e ngāue mahuʻinga ʻa e ʻOtuá ʻoku ʻikai fakatokangaʻi ia ʻe he kakai ʻo e māmaní. Naʻe ʻomi ʻe he senituli hono ono kimuʻa ʻia Kalaisí, ha kau mataotao fakaʻatamai hangē ko Konifiusiasi ʻo Siainá mo Puta ʻo ʻInitia Hahaké, ka ko e mālohi ʻo e lakanga fakataulaʻeiki ʻo e ʻOtuá naʻe ʻia Taniela ia, ʻa e palōfita naʻe nofo pōpula he lolotonga e pule ʻa e tuʻi Pāpilone ko Nepukanesá.

ʻI he puputuʻu ʻa Nepukanesa mei haʻane misi he poʻulí, naá ne tuʻutuʻuni ai ke fakahā ange ʻe heʻene kau faimaná mo e kau fie maná fakatouʻosi ʻa ʻene misí pea fakaʻuhingaʻi mo ʻene misí. Naʻe ʻikai foki ke nau lava ʻo fakahā ki he tuʻí ʻa e meʻa naʻe misi ki aí pea nau lāunga. “ʻOku ʻikai ha tangata ʻi māmani ʻoku mafai [ke fakahā ʻa e meʻá ni, pe ʻoku ʻi ai ha tuʻi kuo kole] ki ha ngaahi meʻa pehē.”1 Naʻe houhau ʻa e Tuʻi ko Nepukanesá ʻi he ʻikai ke nau lava ʻo fai iá, peá ne tuʻutuʻuni heʻene houhaú, ke tāmateʻi kotoa ʻene kau faifaleʻí.

Naʻe lotua ʻe Taniela, ko e taha ʻo e kau tangata poto ʻa e Tuʻí, ke maʻu “ʻa e ʻaloʻofa ʻa e … ʻOtuá … ʻi he meʻa fufuú ni.”2

Naʻe hoko ai ha mana. Naʻe fakahā kia Taniela e meʻalilo naʻe misi ki ai ʻa e Tuʻí.

Naʻe ʻave ʻa Taniela ki he ʻao ʻo e tuʻí. “ʻOkú ke faʻa fai ke fakahā kiate au ʻa e misi ʻa ia naʻá ku mamata aí mo hono ʻuhinga ʻo iá?”

Naʻe tali ange ʻe Tāniela:

“[He ʻikai lava] ʻe he kau tangata potó, mo e kau ʻasitalōnomá, pe ʻe he kau faimaná [ke fakahā atu hoʻo misí]. …

“Ka ʻoku ʻi ai ha ʻOtua ʻi he langí te [ne lava ʻo fakahā ʻa e ngaahi meʻá ni pea te Ne] fakahā ki … he tuʻi ko Nepukanesá ʻa ia ʻe hoko ʻi he ʻaho ʻamuí. …

Naʻe pehē ʻe Taniela, “ʻE fokotuʻu ʻe he ʻOtua ʻo e langí ha puleʻanga, [ko ha maka naʻe tā, taʻekau ai ha nima, ʻa ia ʻe hoko ko ha moʻunga te ne fakafonu ʻa e māmaní kotoa] ʻo ʻikai toe fakaʻauha … [ka ke] tuʻu maʻu ia ʻo taʻengata.

Naʻe pehē ʻe Taniela, “Ko e misí, ʻoku mahino pea ko hono ʻuhinga ʻo iá ʻoku maʻu.”3

ʻI hono fakamatalaʻi pea fakaʻuhingaʻi ʻene misí, naʻe folofola mahino e tuʻí, “Ko ho ʻOtuá ko e ʻOtua ia ʻo e ngaahi ʻotuá, mo e ʻEiki ʻo e ngaahi tuʻí.”4

Naʻe hoko mai he tokoni fakaofo ʻa e ʻOtuá kia Tanielá, e kahaʻu ne kikiteʻi ki he ongoongolelei ʻo Sīsū Kalaisí ʻi hono toe fakafoki mai ki māmaní, “ko ha puleʻanga … [te ne fakafonu] ʻa māmani kotoa … ʻe ʻikai ke teitei fakaʻauha … [ka ʻe] tuʻu ʻo lauikuonga.”

Hangē ko ia ne kikiteʻi ʻe Nīfaí, ʻe tokosiʻi e kau mēmipa ʻo e Siasí he ngaahi ʻaho kimui ní ʻe ka te nau ʻi he funga ʻo e māmaní kotoa, pea ʻe ʻatā ʻa e mālohi mo e ngaahi ouau ʻo e lakanga fakataulaʻeikí ki he kakai kotoa pē te nau fie maʻu iá, ʻo fakafonu ʻa e māmaní hangē ko e kikiteʻi ʻe Tanielá.5

Naʻe maʻu ʻe he Palōfita ko Siosefa Sāmitá ʻi he 1831 ʻa e fakahā ko ʻení: “Kuo tuku mai ʻa e ngaahi kī ʻo e puleʻanga ʻo e ʻOtuá [mo e tānaki mai ʻo ʻIsileli mei he potu ʻe fā ʻo e māmaní] ki he tangatá, pea ʻe teka atu mei ai ʻa e ongoongoleleí ʻo aʻu ki he ngataʻanga ʻo e māmaní, ʻo hangē ko e teka atu ʻa e maka kuo tā mei he moʻungá, taʻekau ai ha nimá, kae ʻoua kuo fakafonu ʻe ia ʻa e māmaní kotoa pē.”6
