My Covenant Path
Learn about the Melchizedek Priesthood
“I am who I am today because of this wonderful restored gospel that I have in my life.”
“And this greater priesthood administereth the gospel and holdeth the key of the mysteries of the kingdom, even the key of the knowledge of God” (Doctrine and Covenants 84:19).
“l am who l am today because of this wonderful, restored gospel that I have in my life.” Sister Khosi Ndlovu of the Tsakane Ward rejoices when she thinks about how the priesthood has blessed her life. She continues, “Through the power of the Melchizedek Priesthood, this restored gospel, the teachings, the warnings and the revelations the prophet receives have molded me and continue molding me into the person that my Father wants me to be.”
Through the Melchizedek Priesthood, each Church member can receive priesthood ordinances. These ordinances enable us to make covenants with God.
Melchizedek Priesthood holders can give blessings of comfort and bless the sick. These blessings can give great relief and solace when needed.
While both women and men act under the power of the Melchizedek Priesthood while serving in the Church, worthy adult males are ordained to the Melchizedek Priesthood and officiate in priesthood ordinances.
President Dallin H. Oaks has stated, “The priesthood is a divine power and authority held in trust to be used for God’s work for the benefit of all of His children. . . .
“The blessings of the priesthood, such as the fulness of the gospel and ordinances like baptism, confirmation and receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost, the temple endowment, and eternal marriage, are available to men and women alike.”1
Sister Khosi says that “in this day and age, in this world full of chaos, we have brethren whose sole responsibility is to uplift, develop and help us to become what our Father wants us to be. What joy and comfort that gives me. I am happy to know that through the Melchizedek Priesthood, the doors of the celestial kingdom are open to all.”
