Handbook Highlights
Ministering
What a privilege you and I have to be ministering brothers and sisters! The General Handbook, Section 21, offers us some inspired counsel to help us follow Christ’s example in ministering.
Ministering means serving others as the Saviour did. He loved, taught, prayed for, comforted, and blessed those around Him.
The Lord wants all members of His Church to receive such care.
Ministering helps us keep the commandments to love God and to love our neighbors. It is also a vital way to help accomplish the work of salvation and exaltation.
Elders quorum and Relief Society presidencies help us learn how to minister to others and give us inspiration, guidance, and support. They and we can seek inspiration from the scriptures, this chapter (21) in the Handbook, and the website ministering.ChurchofJesusChrist.org.
We represent the Lord. We help members feel the love and support of the bishop and Relief Society or quorum leaders. We watch over the members and are one with them. We help strengthen their faith in Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. We help them to make and keep sacred covenants, we discern their needs, we provide them help and comfort, and assist them in becoming spiritually and temporally self-reliant. We adapt our efforts to the needs of our brothers and sisters.
The Savior gave His disciples meaningful assignments. In like manner, we have received meaningful assignments to minister as He did. May we follow Christ’s example, and in so doing, we and our brothers and sisters will feel the Saviour’s love.
