The Blessings of Temple Service
As a service missionary, I had the opportunity to serve at the London England Temple as one of my assignments. I served regularly and was made to feel so welcome from the moment I started. The temple presidency were so kind and helpful, and the other temple workers soon became my close friends.
I loved getting my daily schedule with all my assigned tasks. I didn’t have a favourite, from giving patrons their clothes to watching over the celestial room, it was all so fun and spiritual. I loved interacting and helping patrons have a spiritual experience. I also loved it when my ward or stake came and I got to interact with members I knew, they would all point out how there was a calmness about me. The other temple workers would say similar things, and that they could see how happy and comfortable I was in the temple.
I had some lovely spiritual experiences that will stay with me forever! The first being how Heavenly Father showed me how powerful prayer can be, and how our prayers can benefit others. The second was when I was sitting in the celestial room and my nan entered my thoughts. That then made me think of her son, and the next day I sealed her son to her and my grandad. That will be a special moment I will always remember. The third was realising how blessed I am as a child of God, having Him protect me once from a falling tree!
I left the temple and my mission assignment with so much respect and admiration for those that work there, they make the temple run smoothly for us as patrons! I finished my mission with memories and friendships with those wonderful temple workers and missionaries, and that is very special to me.
My love for the temple has grown over the time I served. I felt a little sad when I left the temple to go home, because I felt like I was leaving home and leaving my friends behind. But that has encouraged me to dedicate my time to going back as often as I can.
I testify that the temple is a house of God—the Spirit is truly there and present in everything you do in the temple. You are always welcomed with such open arms and everyone greets you with a smile. As a young adult who served in the temple, I urge everyone who reads this to try to attend the temple as often as you can, you will be blessed and feel loved.
