Musings with a Theology Student on Resurrection
He tried to tell me
it’s all symbolic—
We’ll all live on
he agreed
but only as flickered hues
of memory
in the minds of those
who follow us;
And Christ, too
lives on
said he
but only as thoughts and deeds
in the lives of those
who follow Him.
How tragic to think
to take from man
the purest mortal hope
of limb and joint
in perfect form
with brightest recollection
before the pleasing bar.
Oh yes, young scholar,
it’s all symbolic;
Remember His sepulchre—
it lay empty
but held in its
emptiness
the fullness
of a flawless plan.
