Oceans of Faces
I am not myself today.
I am a towering palm tree,
gathering the hot sun
with my leafy fronds.
I am the white sand,
absorbing the laughter of teenagers
and the sharp whistle of a lifeguard.
I am a white-breasted seagull
soaring in the turquoise sky,
gulping in the tangy salt air.
I am a sun-bleached Levi jacket
warding off life’s sharp winds,
reflecting in dark Vuarnets.
I am not myself today.
